Heather McDonald-Blumer MD, MSc, FRCP(C)

Dr. McDonald obtained her Doctor of Medicine from McMaster University and then completed her Internal Medicine and Rheumatology training at the University of Toronto. From 1996 to 2004 she was affiliated with Women’s College Hospital where she was a member of the Multidisciplinary Osteoporosis Program. Dr. McDonald was the Medical Director of this program from 2001-2004.
As of July 2004, Dr. McDonald has been on staff at Mt Sinai Hospital/University Health Network where she is a member of the rheumatology division with her practice focusing on inflammatory arthritis and also on osteoporosis. She is Associate Director of the Osteoporosis Program at the University Health Network. She has been active in providing patient and family physician education relevant to osteoporosis prevention and treatment. She is currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of Osteoporosis Canada and within the rheumatology community, she has been on the Executive of the Canadian Rheumatology Association, the Ontario Rheumatology Association and Chair of the Specialty Committee and the Examination Board for Rheumatology for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. McDonald has a strong interest in medical education. She has completed a Master of Science (Health Professions Teacher Education) from the University of Toronto and was part of the inaugural class of the Master Teacher Program for the Department of Medicine at U of T. She has recently finished a 5 year term as the Program Director for Rheumatology at the University of Toronto. Her work in rheumatology education has been well received as demonstrated by numerous recent local and national awards.
Dr. McDonald is currently the Director for the Internal Medicine Training Program at the University of Toronto, the largest physician training program in the country.
