Osteoporosis Canada (OC) is proud to announce Dr. Angela Cheung
as the 2010 Lindy Fraser Memorial Award recipient. The Lindy Fraser Memorial Award was created in 1994 under
the banner of Osteoporosis Canada to recognize individuals who have done exemplary research and have helped
to increase the knowledge about osteoporosis.
Dr.Cheung obtained her MD degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1988, and her PhD
degree from Harvard University in 1997. Dr. Cheung is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of
Toronto. She is also the Director of the University Health Network Osteoporosis Program and the Director of
the Centre of Excellence in Skeletal Health Assessment (CESHA).
Dr. Cheung joined the OC-Scientific Advisory Council in 2001 and since then has been contributing
significantly to guidelines and research work. She currently holds the position of SAC Vice-Chair as well as
SAC Chair of the Research Committee. She is a member of the Best Practices Committee and helped complete the
2010 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Osteoporosis. She was also actively
involved during the launch, speaking for and on behalf of Osteoporosis Canada.
On October 15th, 2010, Dr. Bill Leslie (SAC Chair) handed Dr. Cheung the prestigious award during the
Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) Executive & Guidelines Committee Meeting at the 2010 Annual ASBMR
(American Society for Bone Mineral Research).
