About the Presenter:
Janet Barnes, Senior Recreation Therapist
Janet Barnes is a Senior Recreation Therapist with the Saskatoon Health Region. She works closely with
the Saskatoon in motion team and other community partners to implement the older
adult health promotion strategy in the Saskatoon Health Region. This strategy includes supporting both
Forever…in motion, a community based physical activity program for older adults and
Staying On Your Feet – a Falls Prevention and Balance Education program.
During her 30 year career with the health region, Janet has worked as a Recreation
Therapist within the healthcare system across the continuum of care including transitional care, mental
health, rehabilitation, and the Acquired Brain Injury Outreach Team. She finds her current work in the
area of health promotion very rewarding as she helps older adults learn to take control over their own
health.
Janet is the Chairperson of the Saskatoon Falls Prevention Consortium and a
facilitator with the Canadian Falls Prevention Curriculum.
