On Friday, February 22, the Wellington Park Terrace Retirement Residence hosted a Bone China Tea fundraiser in Guelph to raise awareness of osteoporosis and the work Osteoporosis Canada is doing to combat the bone-wasting disease in the region and across the province.

The event, which raised more than $1,600.00 for local osteoporosis education and awareness, featured Maureen McTeer, the Patron of Osteoporosis Canada, who spoke at the event and told the audience "Osteoporosis is a dreadful disease. It is a silent thief that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. Lives have ended because of low bone mass and the deterioration of their bone tissue.  Through its various fundraising and education efforts, Osteoporosis Canada is committed to a future where Canadians will not have to suffer from the disease."

One in four women over the age of 50 and at least one in eight men over 50 has osteoporosis, a condition that affects approximately 530,000 people in Ontario. Funds raised through Bone China Tea fundraisers help Osteoporosis Canada to educate, empower and support communities across Canada in the risk-reduction and treatment of osteoporosis.
