Congratulations to Dr. Famida Jiwa, new CNS Vice Chair

June 2009

Congratulations to Dr. Famida Jiwa, who has recently been appointed as Vice Chair of the Committee of National Societies (CNS) of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF). Dr. Famida Jiwa was recently elected to the position of Chair of the Patient Societies Subcommittee of the Committee of National Societies (CNS) of the IOF for a term of two years. The IOFs CNS currently comprises 188 full or associate member societies in 91 countries, territories and regions worldwide. Many members of the CNS belong to the Patient Societies Subcommittee, an important forum for sharing information about international awareness and education programs carried out by the patient-oriented societies within the CNS. Activities of these societies include lobbying for better prevention, promoting early diagnosis for those at high risk for the disease and empowering the patient through support groups and independent information about treatment options.
