Foundation (IOF) and Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Lyon, France, passed away on
July 23 at the age of 58. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Professor Delmas was unofficially known as the
"medical face" of osteoporosis among his local and international peers due to his extensive osteoporosis
research, which began over 20 years ago in France.
Professor Delmas served as director of basic and clinical research
programmes in metabolic bone diseases, with a special interest in osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. He was the

His dedication to osteoporosis research is an inspiration to all of those
who have a vision of a world without osteoporotic fractures. Dr Delmas was a visionary whose leadership in
the International Osteoporosis Foundation has greatly influenced the care of those with osteoporosis around
the world, said Dr. Rick Adachi, Rheumatologist and member of Osteoporosis Canadas Scientific Advisory
