Osteoporosis Canada has recently received a $15,000 donation from Closing
the Gap Healthcare Group, made in recognition of the strong affiliation between the health and educational
services provided to their patients and clients and the work of Osteoporosis Canada. This is the most
significant donation from a small organization ever received by Osteoporosis Canada, and we are truly touched
by the choice.
At Closing the Gap, health service professionals work with many osteoporosis patients to
rehabilitate them, educate them about the role of diet and exercise within osteoporosis management, and
empower them through teaching and health promotion initiatives. “Apart from our shared commitment to ensuring
that the best treatment options are available to individuals living with osteoporosis, I am happy to see our
two organizations joining together in the common goal of closing care gaps for people living with
osteoporosis,” said Julie Foley, President and CEO, Osteoporosis Canada.
The quality of life of their clients also drives the work of Closing the
Gap Healthcare Group. To most people, “quality of life” means two things: they want to enjoy being alive, and
they want to experience that enjoyment for as many years as possible. Simply put, people want to live good,
long lives. When a person’s health is poor, their joy in being alive may be diminished, and the length of
their life may be reduced.
“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work alongside
Osteoporosis Canada in order to improve the health outcomes for those we serve on a daily basis,” says Connie
Clerici, President and CEO of Closing the Gap Healthcare Group.
People facing an ongoing health issue on a daily basis frequently need
help in restoring or increasing their enjoyment of life, and in prolonging their lives. Closing the Gap
recognizes the important work that Osteoporosis Canada does in improving the quality of life of Canadians and
are proud to support their work. “I see how osteoporosis affects the lives of many of my clients every day.
While my role is important in assisting them to regain their independence following a fractured hip and
understanding the importance of ongoing nutrition and exercise, it’s important to me to know that
Osteoporosis Canada is working on primary prevention to decrease the number of clients who are going to be
experiencing the serious effects of osteoporosis,” says physiotherapist Sarah Boulton at Closing the Gap
Healthcare Group.
It is generous donations such as this one that allow Osteoporosis Canada
to continue our work, thereby making a difference in the lives of people living with osteoporosis.
