Overview
On Thursday October 29th, the Canadian Osteoporosis Patient
Network (COPN) hosted its third virtual education forum on the topic of falls and fracture
prevention.
The forum was moderated by Tanya Long, National Education Manager,
Osteoporosis Canada, and co-led by Dr. Cathy Arnold and physiotherapist Rebecca Gruber.
Dr. Cathy Arnold's presentation provided an overview of falls, their
societal impact, factors that contribute to falls and fractures, as well as intervention strategies.
Following Dr. Arnold's presentation, physiotherapist Rebecca Gruber focused on the relationship between
falls, fractures and osteoporosis. Risk reduction strategies and exercises for limiting falls and fractures
for people living with osteoporosis were also discussed.
The educational forum was accessed by over 200 people across Canada, many
of them people living with osteoporosis. It was well received, and was a successful additional resource,
providing valuable information and fall/fracture-prevention tips, as well as yet another way to live better
with osteoporosis. Thank you to our presenters, moderator, and participants for a great event.
