Virtual forum: Enjoy Physical Activity with Confidence

The Canadian Osteoporosis Patient Network (COPN) hosted its second Virtual forum, Enjoy Physical Activity with Confidence, on Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

The education forum was moderated by Dr. Famida Jiwa, Vice President of Osteoporosis Canada, and was led by physiotherapist Judy Murray (MScPT). Judy's presentation focused on the role of safe physical activity in osteoporosis management and prevention. Information about exercise benefits and precautions specific to osteoporosis was provided. Judy also led a number of live demonstrations on how to optimize mobility and independence using safe exercise techniques.

The forum was accessed by osteoporosis patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals across Canada. Based on the evaluation feedback received, Judy did a superb job leading the presentation as well as incorporating a live demonstration.

Judy Murray is a physiotherapist with 27 years of clinical experience assisting seniors in hospital and home settings. She completed her Masters in Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto as an Advanced Standing Student. She also has the highest training in the Stanford University Chronic Disease Self-Management Program and has been instrumental in promoting this program to patients within the community as well as health care professionals and administrators across the Greater Toronto Area and other provincial locations.
