On Thursday March 4th, the Canadian Osteoporosis
Patient Network (COPN) hosted its fourth virtual education forum, entitled Bone Appétit: Eating Well for
Bone Health. The information presented focused on the important role that nutrition and healthy eating
habits play in maintaining strong bones for people living with osteoporosis.
The education forum was moderated by Tanya Long,
National Education Manager of Osteoporosis Canada, and co-led by dietitians Wendy Borody and Anna
Pohorecky.
The presentation offered valuable information about
the vital nutrients that help to optimize bone health and strength (i.e., calcium, vitamin D, protein, etc.).
Dietitians Wendy Borody and Anna Pohorecky also shared tasty calcium-rich recipes along with tips on how to
calculate and maintain the daily intake of essential nutrients. Nutrition barriers and solutions specific to
osteoporosis were also discussed.
The educational forum was accessed by over 200
people across Canada, many of them individuals living with osteoporosis. Feedback was very positive. Thanks
to both Anna and Wendy for presenting such valuable information and tips to highlight the important role
nutrition plays in living well with osteoporosis.
