Larry
Funnell
Cloverdale, British Columbia
After a career spanning 35 years and many
disciplines including meteorology, domestic and international policy, management and human resources, Larry
retired from Environment Canada in 2006. Retirement afforded him the time to relax and enjoy his hobby of
woodcarving. It also gave him the opportunity to reflect upon the numerous fractures he had suffered before
he reached age 50 and the shocking diagnosis of osteoporosis. His search for information led him to the
Canadian Osteoporosis Patient Network where he found not only answers but the support and encouragement of
others who had experienced the same shock and faced the same challenges of living with osteoporosis. Two
years after joining the COPN executive committee, Larry became the Chair in June 2009.
