June 2010
We are honoured to announce that Cheryl Baldwin, long-time
volunteer with Osteoporosis Canada and currently Vice-Chair of our Board of Directors, was recently
admitted to the Order of the Red Cross - Member Level.
A loyal and dedicated volunteer with the Manitoba Region of the Canadian Red Cross Society for 23 years,
Cheryl has demonstrated excellence in leadership through an ongoing commitment to the disaster management
program.
Cheryl's progressive development into a leader has occurred over many years and has provided needed
continuity and quality assurance in Manitoba where disasters are significant and recurrent. Beginning as a
front-line volunteer, Cheryl's desire to learn, grow and develop was evident as she achieved success and
stepped forward with ever-increasing commitment and confidence.
Over the years, Cheryl has maintained a steady presence with the Red Cross, becoming known for her
leadership in the community. Through her work at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, Cheryl promotes the work
of the Red Cross Society to the corporate community and demonstrates an ideal reflection of a professional
volunteer through her Red Cross work.
Acting as the Disaster Response Team Director during the 2009 Manitoba Floods, Cheryl was called upon to
provide leadership to staff and volunteers alike.
She continues to offer ongoing support and mentorship during non-disaster times to the development of a
growing and highly dedicated team of leadership volunteers. Cheryl is able to move seamlessly between
internal and external demands, offering a high level of accountability, expertise and dedication to
humanitarian values.
The Order of the Red Cross is the highest recognition for volunteer service in The Canadian Red Cross
Society. It is designed to recognize outstanding performance among all volunteers through superior
contributions in volunteerism or leadership from a local to a national level.
Again, congratulations, Cheryl! We're very proud of you!
